Celebrating The Holidays Safely
As we navigate a very different holiday season than we are normally used to, we are taking some time to share tips and resources that will help to make a socially distanced holiday easier for seniors and high risk groups. We understand how important it is to connect with family and friends and how difficult being apart can be. But by preparing for using some technology and CDC recommended best-practices, the season can still be enjoyable. We advise following local and state suggestions for having a safe season.
Zoom and Virtual Meetings
Connecting with family and friends is easy with video chat and meeting platforms, whether the family is across town or across the country. These platforms are easy to use and can be accessed using a laptop, cell phone, or tablet. We suggest that you discuss with your family which meeting technology they use. This can include Zoom, Facetime, and Skype
CDC Recommendations
Due to increased cases across the United States, the CDC advises that the safest way to celebrate during the holiday season is at home with the people you live with as gathering with family and friends who do not live with you can increase the chances of getting or spreading COVID-19 or the flu. The CDC has also created two different memos on this subject. One is for people who will be hosting a gathering and the other is for those who are attending a gathering. Mask use and social distancing are recommended.
Helping a Loved One Who is Discharged Around the Holidays
During the holiday season, there is often a rush of discharges from nursing homes and hospitals in an effort to get patients home to their loved ones. As always, Oakley Home Access is equipped with all of the equipment needed to make your home accessible should a discharge occur faster than anticipated. Our showroom is stocked with ramp and stairlifts which can be assessed for and installed quickly to ensure it is in place before your loved one gets home! We’ve created a video that you can watch by clicking here. Should an out of state family member be coming to visit, a 1-2 month rental is perfect to create an accessible home for all of the holidays that fall between November and the end of December.
Be sure to call us to get started on your ramp rental process. 401-429-3882.
